He was predeceased by: his parents, Lee McKinney and Carrie McKinney (Myers); and his siblings, Norma Habbe, Bonnie Waller, Ruth Sellers, Clarence, Delbert, Robert and Harold McKinney.

He is survived by: his wife Sarah Fly of Carterville; his children, Kathy Young (Brett) of Carterville and Jim McKinney (Betsy) of Carterville; his grandchildren, Amanda Hughes of Carterville and Will McKinney of Carterville; and his siblings, Frances Vaughn of Mt. Morris, Margaret Rushing (Dick) of Paducah, Mary Marolda (Frank) of Las Vegas, Janet McDaniel (Morris) of Carbondale, Grace Herring (Ron) of Carbondale, Karen Steele (Gary) of La Quinta, Donna Stull (Dave) of Murphysboro, Richard McKinney (Lois) of Carterville and Debbie Piquard (Danny) of Murphysboro. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
