He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry J. Schnelt and Mary C. Schnelt (Goeddey); his brothers, Bob and Ed Schnelt; and his siblings-in-law, Max Brannan, Dick Brown and Judy Schnelt.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Helen Osterman; his children, Jim Schnelt (Karen) of Carrollton, Larry Schnelt (Taunya) of Carrollton and Karen Kirbach (Mike "Wilbur") of Carrollton; his grandchildren, Jayme Schnelt-Howland (Erik), Melissa Carter (Nick), Eric Schnelt, Blaikley Webb, Tiffany Scoggins (Cody) and Lance Schnelt; his great grandchildren, Reagan, Emersyn Carter and Cooper Scoggins; his sisters, Frances Brown of Winchester and Margaret "Peg" Schnelt of Carrollton; and his sister-in-law Betty Brannan of Carrollton.
