He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Burns and Beryl Smith (Griffin); his siblings, Betty (Orville Painter), Martha (Eugene "Pearly" Graves) and Robert; his sister-in-law Vivian Smith; his parents-in-law, Otis and Aileen Whitaker; and his brother-in-law William Whitaker.
He is survived by: his wife Sally Whitaker; his children, Lynn Stendeback (Bill), Mary Ann Portwood (Gary), Sarah Schmidt (Dan), Luke Smith (Ronda) and Robin Manns (Nick); his grandchildren, Courtney Johnson (Kevin), Hillary Hoffman (David), Mallory Stendeback, Marc Stendeback, Kelli Hughes (Zach), Kayla Tobias (Kevin), Ben Schmidt (Sarah), Zachary Schmidt (Brittney), Matthew Schmidt (Dana), Jacob Smith (Jessica), Jerrett Smith (Chantelle), Ailee Manns and Joshua Manns (Devyn); and his sister-in-law Louise Whitaker. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to the Tri-County Honor Guard, BJC Hospice, or the Carrollton United Methodist Church and will be collected by the funeral home.
