He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Elvis and Mary Helen Yates (Cozart); his siblings, Antonio Yates (Tony), Homer Yates (Buddy), Doris Yates and Betty Jean Yates Ellison; his great grandchild Madisyn Gilstrap; and his children-in-law, Jennifer Yates, Steve Payne and Craig Mitchem.
He is survived by: his spouse Verla Taylor (Snelling); his significant other Norma Douthitt; his pet Jojo; his children, Tammy Anders of Easly, SC, Tina Payne of Lafayette, IN, Tracy Haslam and Johnnie Legier Yates II (Debbie); and his siblings, Erma Winkleman (Donnie), Sondra Gresham and Roger Yates (Sue). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
