He is survived by: his wife Norma Jean Michels (Kuykendall) of Carmi, Illinois; his children, James Ernest, II Michels (Linda) of West Salem, Illinois, Misty Dawn Eckleberry of Fairfield and Celina Cartwright (Mike) of Crossville, Illinois; his brothers, Charles Raymond Michels (Letha) of Cowling and Larry Michels (Gloria) of Golden Gate, Illinois; his stepbrother Gary Cullison (Cindy) of Newburgh, Indiana; his grandchildren, Sidney Alicia Eckleberry, Jace Alexander Eckleberry, Hunter James Michels, Ivory Kay Rhodes, Wyatt Lee Michels, Samantha Jo Rhodes, Wyatt Cartwright, Faith Johnson and Wyatt Johnson; his great grandchild Isla Dawn Hayes; his close friend Tabitha Turner; and his pet Cracker.
