He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles E. Gwaltney and Sarah Louise Gwaltney (Fulford); his son Brian Keith Gwaltney; his granddaughter Jennifer Gwaltney; and his siblings, Viola Puckett, Velma Ellis, Vercie Shaw and Hubert Gwaltney.

He is survived by: his wife Mildred Gwaltney (Russell) of Carmi; his children, David Gwaltney (Starla) of Eddyville, Kentucky and Diane Gwaltney-Strong of Carmi; his daughter-in-law Yvonne Black; his grandchildren, Brian Keith Gwaltney (Emily), Luke Titzer (Beth) and Sarah Nicole Strong; his great grandchildren, Jewel Gwaltney, Jonathan Gwaltney, Dion Gwaltney, Rylie Titzer and Dylan Titzer; and his great great grandchild A'Riah Gwaltney.
