With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Vernon Vahlkamp of Carlyle, Illinois, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. He was predeceased by: his parents, Rose Vahlkamp (Wilken) and John Vahlkamp of Carlyle; his daughter Mary Fulton; his parents-in-law, Agnes (Lammers) and Lawrence Kampwerth; his brothers-in-law, Raymond "Doc" Husmann, Leroy Kampwerth and Paul Fehrmann; and also, Fred, Mary Jo Vahlkamp, John "Jack", Jane Vahlkamp, Collette Vahlkamp, Marcel, Joanie Kampwerth, Cyril Kampwerth, Tom Kampwerth, Lawrence "Turk" Kampwerth and Stan Kampwerth.

He is survived by: his wife Helen; his children, Karen Schubert (Rod) of Carlyle, Gerry Vahlkamp (Debbie) of Carlyle, Janice Hempen (Troy) of Carlyle, Dale Vahlkamp (Kira) of Carlyle and Laura Vahlkamp (Travis) of Highland; his grandchildren, Krista Theby (Eric), Aaron Mahlandt (Bry), Kyle Fulton, Luke Mahlandt (Kris), Colin Vahlkamp (Katie McMullen), Jake Fulton (Serena McPhail), Alexandra Bach (Zach), Mariah Vahlkamp, Gillian Anderson and Wyatt Anderson; his great grandchild Ellis; his sisters, Lillian Fleckenstein (Jack), Willene Fehrmann, Mary Huwa, Rose Marie Husmann and Lee Love (Dan); and his in-laws, Donna Kampwerth, Judy Kampwerth, Jane Kampwerth and Judy Korte. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Friday, January 3rd 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Zieren Funeral Home (1111 Clinton St, Carlyle, IL 62231). A funeral Mass was held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary's Church (1171 Jefferson St, Carlyle, IL 62231).

Vernon's contributions to his community and to his family, friends and neighbors always brought a smile to his face and pride in his heart.
