He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, Norman Robert "Casey" Smith and Mamie Josephine Lawler Smith; his wife Janie Marie Eichhorst-Smith; his sons, Derek William Smith and Trevor Joseph Smith of Carlock; his sister Janie Drury (Alvin) of Plainfield; his sister-in-law Julie Vickrey (Ed); his niece Debbie Kane (Tim) of Sugar Grove; and his nephews, Rodney Drury (LT) of Addison and Don Vickrey of Davenport, Iowa..

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to support his sons' education or to Boy Scout Troop 57 of Eureka, Illinois.
