He was predeceased by: his parents, James Coatney and Elizabeth Coatney; his former wife Ruth Schmidt Coatney; and his brothers, Bob Coatney and Will Coatney.
He is survived by: his children, Cindy Stayton (Brad) of Carlinville, Phil Coatney (Lynanne) of Glen Carbon and Steve Coatney (Kris) of Phoenix, AZ.; his grandchildren, Derek Stayton (Lyndsey), Dane Stayton (Grace), Damon Stayton (Chelsey), Chelsea Coatney (Kevin), Maxwell Coatney, Cal Coatney and Ty Coatney; his great grandchildren, Sloane, Lowen, Rhett and Rhen Stayton; and his sister Janice Adams. He is also survived by several sisters and brothers in law and nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Sunday, November 3rd 2024 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Zion Lutheran Church (501 S Broad St, Carlinville, IL 62626). A funeral service was held on Monday, November 4th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
Memorials may be made to the Carlinville Lions Club or Zion Lutheran Church.
