He was predeceased by: his parents, William J. Burns and Catherine Drew Burns; his wife Helen Theresa Costello Burns; his daughter Debora Burns Rathgeb; and his sisters, Betty Lynch and Helen Allen.
He is survived by: his nieces and nephews, Buck, Glenda Costello, Sara, Jon Klaus, Barb Lynch and Carol Burns Loy; his siblings, Charlie Burns (Mary Lou) and Mary Burns; and his son-in-law Dave Rathgeb.
