He was predeceased by: his parent Myrle Anderson Ashby; his wife Georgia F. Maguire Ashby; his son-in-law Kent Young (Genny); his father Clarence O. Ashby; his stepmother Ruth E. Mitchell Ashby; his siblings, Phyllis Ashby (Don L. Hopper) and Donald E. Ashby (Darlene E. Harris); and his brothers-in-law, Paul D. Nevin (Carol) and C. J. Stewart (Linda).
He is survived by: his children, Genevieve "Genny" Young of Eureka, IL, Rhonda Coulter (Russell) of Sparta, IL, Mary Robbins (Ted) of Springfield, IL, Margaret Norris (John) of Carlinville, IL, Paula Striplin of Springfield, IL, James "Andy" Ashby (Cindy) of Carlinville, IL and Jonathan "Jon" Ashby of Carlinville, IL; and his siblings, Linda Stewart, Carol Nevin, Marilyn "Joyce" Ashby, Gary Ashby (Rosemary) and Margaret (John Norris). He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren.
