Hern Sr. of Carbondale, Illinois, born in Saint Louis, Missouri, who passed away on February 28, 2025, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his son Mark Hern; his parents, Roy Hern and Norma Hern; and his siblings, Royce Hern, Roger Hern and Glenda Hern (Brock).
He is survived by: his wife Mary Frances Hern; his son Gary Hern Jr. (Dana); his granddaughters, Rebecca Hern, Mehgan Little and Nicole Hern; his stepdaughters, Sabrina Deterding (John), Kim Hattendorf and Renee Bollinger (Mark); and his siblings, Gloria Goldschmidt, Larry Hern (Donna), Sharon Caswell (Larry) and Shawn Christmann. He is also survived by nieces; nephews; and cousins.
