He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Spencer and Vera Spencer (Atchley); his daughter Liz Putney; his grandson Zachary Ryan; and his brothers, Bud Spencer and Glen Spencer.

He is survived by: his children, William D. Spencer of Canton, Douglas Spencer (Debbie) of Canton and Mary Alexander (Chase) of Canton; his grandchildren, Ella Alexander, Chloe Alexander, Josh Ogden (Natalie), Amanda Putney, Edward Putney and Jessica Donelson (Tyler); and his brother Mike Spencer (Shellie). He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren.
