He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruby Battles and Frank Tapley; his grandson Pe'Chince Conrad Battles; and his siblings, Hope Hayes, James Battle, William Battle and Earl Dean Bondurant.

He is survived by: his significant other Stephanie Battles; his sons, Derek Battles, William Weinman (Dawn) and Brandon Battles (Danielle); and his sister Rose Hightower. He is also survived by Pepaw and Grandpa, John leaves behind his 15 grandchildren.
