He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Donald Petty and Eva Jennings (Starcevich); his wife Nancy Spenny; his sons, Steve Petty (Amber) of Canton and Tom Petty (Amanda) of Canton; his grandchildren, Emilee, Ellyn, Drew Petty, Zachary Kerans (Ali), Drake, Nathen, Garhett and Randel Petty; his great grandchildren, Natalee and Blayke Kerans; his brother-in-law Bill Spenny; his nephew Mike Spenny; and his niece Lyn Donaho.
Memorials may be made to the Canton Booster Club or the Lukas R. Goforth Memorial Scholarship at Spoon River College.
