We are sad to announce that on October 10, 2023, at the age of 82, Frederick J. Harms of Canton, Illinois, born in Oelwein, Iowa passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Otto Harms and Virginia Harms (Eischeid); and his sisters, Elizabeth and Mary Peitersen. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Gunn; and his sisters, Stephanie Smith of San Diego and Katherine "Kathy" Barnes of LeRoy. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces, and nephews.

“I was lucky enough to have Coach Harms as a football coach and as a teacher at Canton High School in the 1970's. Not only was he a very good teacher but he made it very clear to us a students that we were not only expected to learn but also demonstrate that we had learned our material. I valued Coach as a friend during high school as well as a key reason for my success in college academically as well athletically. Your loss is all our loss at Canton High, Rick McLaren”
