He was predeceased by: his parents, Amos Nicolai and Clara Henrick Nicolai; his siblings, Dorothy Nicolai, Dale Nicolai and Raymond; and his brother-in-law Glenn Bunte.

He is survived by: his sister Deloris Bunte; his nephew Daryl Bunte (Cheryl) of Hannibal, MO.; his great-nephew Adam Sparrow (Jeff) of Pillager, MN; and also Tucker Bunte of Pillager, MN..
