He was predeceased by: his parents, Dallas Glenn and Anna Irene Goertz Wharton. He is survived by: his son David Wharton (Beth); his grandson Blake Wharton (Courtney); his siblings, Ivan Wharton (Betty), Jim Kindhart (Becky Barlow) and Mary Smith (Don); and his stepbrother Gary Evans (Marcy). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
