He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Messer and Mildred Messer (Pettinger); his sons, Kevin and Steven; and his brothers, Gene, Glenn, Bill, Darrell, Charles, Jim, Doug and Tom.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Houpt; his son Ron Messer (Paul Williams) of McKinney, TX; his daughter-in-law Brandie Messer; his grandchildren, Brett Messer (Emily Lund) of Stillman Valley and Devan Kuss (Seth) of Stillman Valley; and his sister Linda Bechtold (Clarence) of Mt. Morris. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
