He was predeceased by: his father Robert W. Elam; and his brother Norman Elam. He is survived by: his mother Dorothy Woolard of Litchfield; his children, Robert Elam Jr. (Bri) of Vandalia and Roberta Evrley (Mike) of Pana; and his nephew Tobi Simonton. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren.

Memorials may go to Brownstown Fire Department.
