He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward I. Gilles and Lucy M. Brutcher Gilles. He is survived by: his wife Mildred "Mickie" Oppe; and his children, Patsy Cahill (Peter), Mary Kay DeVries (Dale), Edward Gilles (Janet), Steven Gilles (Candy) and Paul Gilles Jr. (Susan). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
