He was predeceased by: his parents, Isadore Schierer and Josephine Schierer (Kirchgessner); and his siblings, Bernadine Appel, Richard and Francis Schierer.

He is survived by: his wife June Stubbs; his children, Susan Scheeler (Steve) of Dunlap, Lora McCullough (Robert) of Chillicothe, Julann Schierer (Don Lucas) of Washington, Pamela Spence (Craig) of Havana, Joseph Schierer (Mary) of Princeville, Jeffrey Schierer (Angie) of Brimfield and Jay Schierer of Elmwood; and his siblings, Clara Grebner, Darlene Atkins, Donald (Shirley), Herman, Wilbur (Sandy) and Russell Schierer (Penny). He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren.
