She was predeceased by: her parents, Harley William Nischwitz and Lillian Mae Pollard; and her stepfather Maurice. She is survived by: her father-in-law Maurice Cox; her husband Dayne Abernathy; her sons, Erick Abernathy (Melissa) of Jerseyville and Dirk Abernathy of Brighton; her grandchildren, Amber Weatherford (Courtney), Derick Abernathy, Erick Abernathy Jr. and Kelsey Smith (Dakota); her great grandchildren, Isaac Chinchilla and Jameson Smith; and her brother Harley "Nick" Nischwitz (Audrey).
