It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Melvin Hughes of Bridgeport, Illinois, born in Lawrenceville, Illinois, who passed away on October 29, 2020, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Hubert L. Hughes and Daisy Hughes (Inyart); his wife Joyce Rose Peterson; and his siblings, Mervin Hughes, Merrill Hughes, Merle Hughes, Marion Curtis Hughes and Mildred Bunyan.
He is survived by: his children, Melvin Beryl Hughes of Bridgeport, Barney Hughes (Freeda) of Lawrenceville, Ronnie Hughes of Lawrenceville, Barry Hughes of Lawrenceville, Chris Hughes (Trish) of Lawrenceville, Illinois, Becky Purcell (Justin) of Robinson and Debbie Clettenberg (Alan) of Bridgeport, Illinois; and his siblings, Morris Hughes (Esther) of Cortland, Illinois, Mary Scott of Lawrenceville, Illinois and Shirley Burgett of Lawrenceville, Illinois. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
