He was predeceased by: his parents, Otis Hammel and Janice Hammel (Bundy); and his brother-in-law Wilfred'Butch'DesJardin. He is survived by: his wife Jean James; his daughters, Jordyn Hammel and Madalyn Hammel; and his siblings, Doug and Jeanette Hammel.

Memorial donations may be made to Chemo Buddies at Ascension St. Vincent Cancer Center Evansville or the Lawrence County Humane Society.

“So very sorry to hear. I always seen Dave as one of those kind hearts, a gentle giant, you might say. He was also one of my bee mentors. Having cancer myself, I know it was a difficult time for all of you. I am sure he felt more sorrow for his family than he did for himself. So sad to see him go. What a mighty lose. Mark Stout”
