He was predeceased by: his parents, Helen M. Wempe, and Bernard J. Wempe, Sr.; his wife Joanna C. Scheveling; his son John Wempe; his grandson Allen Wempe; his siblings, Verena Pike (late husbands Larry Hilmes and Adrian Pike), Sylvester Wempe (late Evelyn) and Virgil Wempe (late Leonarda); and his brother-in-law Ralph Haar.
He is survived by: his children, Bernadette Bean (Chris) of Collinsville, Kathy Wempe of Breese, Duane Wempe (Theresa) of Breese, Brian Wempe (Paula Gebke) of Breese, Deb Athmer (Scott) of Albers and Holly Arter (Damon) of Aviston; his grandchildren, Cory Bean, Katie Nowell (Levi), Chris Wempe, Nathan Wempe (Heidi), Renee Thornton (Nick), Rebeckah Wempe (Maria), Amber Summers (Tim), Kyle Athmer and Alex Athmer; and his great grandchildren, Levi Nowell, Jr., Abigail Nowell, Kelsey Wempe, Ryan Strebel, Faith Wempe, Trent Anderson, Carson Thornton, Conner Thornton, Lorelei Wempe, Grayson Wempe, Noah Wempe, Bellamy Wempe, Noah Summers and Addison Summers. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
