He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Meria Simon and Nelse Simon; his wife Melinee Simon; his children, Derby Simon, Melinee Simon Wilson, Valerie Ducksworth (Harry), Denice Simon, Kelly, Grouch and Joshua "Spickum" Simon; his siblings, Gertrude Simon Keller Davis, Louise Simon Bradford, Gayle Simon Daniel and Roy Simon; his grandchildren, Darienne Ducksworth, David Simon (Lara), Danyele Wilson, Kelsey Ndour (Maurice), Chandler and Levingston Simon; and his great grandchildren, Barry Isiah "Lamont" Hall, Jayden, Prez, Jaxson, Jorden, Juniper "Reeby" Ndour, Channing Martinez, Irie Ndour, Angel Simon and Josiah Simon.
In 1999, Joe was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Foundation and honored with their Pioneer Award for his music, and has also been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
