He was predeceased by: his father Ray Russell; his siblings, Charles Russell, Louise Phelps, Dorothy Tittle and Donald Russell; and his nephew Marvin Phelps.
He is survived by: his wife Gwendolyn Sue Russell (Pigg); his daughters, Cindy Poston (Randy) of Mount Vernon and Angela "Jean" Barbee (Rick) of O'Fallon, Illinois; his grandsons, Robert Poston (Jessica Edwards) of Highland, Richard "Rick" Poston of Mount Vernon, Adam Barbee of Tulsa and Andrew Barbee of O'Fallon; his great grandchildren, Blake Poston of Highland, Shane Poston of Highland and Laila Poston of Highland; and his sisters, Margie Lappin of Waltonville and Helen Maxey of Salem, Illinois. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made in George's honor to Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
