It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of David M. Holtfreter of Blue Mound, Illinois, born in Decatur, Illinois, who passed away on October 18, 2022, at the age of 72, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, William Max Holtfreter and Mildred Maxine "Mickey" Holtfreter (Truitt); his grandparents, Herman Max Holtfreter, Ella Mae Holtfreter (McLain), Charles S. Truitt and Eleanor Fay Truitt (Lacy); and his brother-in-law Richard Canaday.

He is survived by: his wife Debra Lynn Holtfreter; his son Brandon Shane Holtfreter (Katy); his stepson Jeremy Portwood (Denise); his grandsons, Noah and Jonah; and his sister Marilyn Jeanne Canaday (Holtfreter).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Richland Community College.
