He was predeceased by: his parents, H. Donald Merritt and Helen Merritt Sr. (Hands); his siblings, Frances Jane, Catherine Jean Merritt and Thomas H. Merritt; and his brother-in-law Charles Ross Moore.
He is survived by: his wife Margaret; his children, Michael Merritt (Mark Roberts) of Dallas, TX and Anne Merritt of Colfax, IL; his brother William P. Merritt of Normal, IL; his sisters-in-law, Judy Merritt and Susan Moore; and his pet Duncan. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
