He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Slater and Frankie Mae Lindsey Slater; and his siblings, Ruby Evans, Annie Sommerio and Reedia Reed.
He is survived by: his children, Maliaha Slater and Michelle Fillenwarth; his grandchildren, Juliana Bingham, Jenivieve Fillenwarth, Ace Fillenwarth and Akeem Childs; and his siblings, Willie McGee, Carol, Donnell Slater, Opria Richardson, Ernest Slater-Leavenworth of Kansas, Bobby Slater, Bessie, Charles Abbott and Bloomington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
