He was predeceased by: his parents, Edmund F. Nelson and Simone Darrigade Nelson; and his brother Steve. He is survived by: his wife Kim Pierce; his daughters, Andrea Marquardt (Ben) and Emily Bradley (Jeremy); his grandchildren, Lucy, Cameron, Rory and Edison; and his sister Shirley Jones (Alan).
