He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Eugene Abernathy and Gail Barnes. He is survived by: his parents, Darin Abernathy and Beth Abernathy (Barnes); his sister Alyssa Abernathy; his grandparents, Gladys Abernathy, Rita Ford and Jerry Gerard; his great-grandparent Jackie Barnes; his aunts and uncles, Jill, Ben Allen, Jennifer, Bob Hunt and Jerry Gerard, Jr.; and his cousins, Kayla (Aaron), Derrick, Savanna, Mackenzie, Aubrielle and Trenton. He is also survived by many other extended family and countless friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Civic Memorial Track, Civic Memorial Football, or Civic Memorial Baseball.
