He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Herman W. Schmidt and Lillian Ann Schmidt (Schoenbaum); his wife Mary Lou; his children, Ron Schmidt (Beth) of Idaho, Darla Lucero (Joe) of Michigan and Deidre Leary (Tim) of Moro; his brother Lucian Schmidt (Mary Lou) of Bethalto; his daughter-in-law Ranotta Brauer (Rich) of Idaho; and his son Rick Schmidt. He was also cherished by 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran School or Zion Lutheran Church.
