He was predeceased by: his parents, George Brown and Eva Brown (Bohanon); his wife Lelia; his children, Geraldine Heinemeier, Theresa Kay Rake and George "Ed" Edward Brown; his sister Jeannie Brien; and his half-brother William Jefferson "W. J." Scales.

He is survived by: his children, Linda Klueter (Russell) of Worden, Illinois and William Brown (Sherry) of Gloucester, Virginia; his sister Hazel Holder of Benton, Kentucky; and his close friend Cathy Platto of Atlanta. He is also survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
