He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Bates and Floya Bates (Smith); his son Kye Wayne Bates; and his siblings, Joyce Nichols and Troyce Bates.
He is survived by: his wife Carol Bates; his daughter Kylie Bates of Benton; his grandchildren, Dymin Williams and Aliya Barkley; his sisters, Nelda Martin of Newburg, IN and Brenda Markwell of Bremen, KY; and his close friends, Scott, Jean Ann Turner, Paula and Eric Funk.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will accepted at the funeral home.
