It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Joan Mertz of Belvidere, Illinois, born in Chicago, Illinois, who passed away on December 13, 2023, at the age of 91, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by : her parents, Richard Traxel and Elsie Traxel (Scheidler); and her siblings, Fred Traxel and Ruth Craig. She is survived by : her spouse Sydney Mertz; her daughter Ellen DeSimone (Rick); her grandchildren, Richard DeSimone (Mindy) and Stephanie Talevera (Neil); and her great grandchildren, Brandon DeSimone, Eric DeSimone, Dominik Nasiatka, Paige Talevera and Mila Talevera. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
