He was predeceased by: his father Eliseo Vela; and his siblings, Eliseo Vela Jr. and Elodia V. Perez. He is survived by: his mother Julia Garza Vela; his wife Margarita Gomez; his children, Monica Vega (Jose), Michel Vela, Abel G. Vela (Adelita) and Amy Vela (Jeffery Beres); and his siblings, Hector Vela, Trinidad Vela, Alvero Vela, Rick Vela, Diana Derry, San Juana Gomez, Maria Vela, Emma Herrera and Debbie Vela. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren as well a numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
