She was predeceased by: her former husband Leroy J. Berkel; her son Thomas R. Berkel; her father Edgar Henry (Mary Ann); her siblings, Leonard, Wilfred Stratmann, Mildred Stratmann and Blanche Stratmann Rehling; her brother-in-law Edward Rehling; her daughters-in-law, Sandy Johann and Mimi Brown; and her grandchildren, Jennifer Johann-Berkel, Patrick Jonathon Martin and Miriam Tokarsky.
She is survived by: her husband Lee; her children, Kenneth Berkel (Christiane) of Rubicon, WI, Charles Berkel (Sandy) of Edwardsville, IL, Edgar Berkel (Bena Silber) of Poughkeepsie, NY, Janet Sorenson Hill (Dwain) of Rochester, IL, Joanne Lippincott of Belleville, IL, Margaret Williams (Edward) of Shiloh, IL, Barbara Jeremiah (Bruce) of Steeleville, IL and Steven Berkel (Maggie Kirk) of St. Jacob, IL; and her daughter-in-law Susan Berkel of Troy, IL. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren and two on the way; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, April 29th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 29th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church (1910 W Belle St, Belleville, IL 62226).
Memorials may be made to St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church or in the form of masses.
