He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Mesekevich-Szelinski and Ann Mesekevich-Szelinski; and his brothers, Frank Szelinski and Raymond Szelinski. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy; his sons, James, Jr. (Jean), Scott R (late Shannon) and Jay (Gayle); his grandsons, Eric (Shannon), Scott F (Amie), Tyler and Aaron; and his great grandchildren, Tommy, Brody and Shannon. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
