He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Verl Steele and Wanda Steele (Jones); his wife Diane Lovelace; his children, Darren Steele (Tammy Molenhour) of Salem, Stacy Booher-Steele (Cindy) of St. Elmo, Lynn Steele of Altamont and Angela Byers (Shane) of Mason; his grandchildren, Jessica Steele of Salem, Chelsie Green (Daniel) of Salem, Shania of Altamont, Cheyenne of Altamont, KayeAnn of Altamont, America Patton of Altamont, Kiana Griggs of Altamont, Dalton Steele (Polly) of Oceanside, Olivia and Josie Byers of Mason; his great grandchildren, Graci, Gabe, Gretta, Damon, Dante, Bonnie, Mikynn, Aerington, Phoenix, Pearl and Harper; his brothers, Roger (Barb) of Beecher City and Dennis Steele (Carol) of Beecher City; his siblings-in-law, Delene Meidlinger (Mark), Doris Black (Steve), Donna Brunmeier (Pat) and Dan Lovelace; his brother Robert Steele (Emmy); and his grandson Justice Levi Steele. He was also cherished by eight nephews; four nieces, and countless friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in David's name may be made to Lincolnland Hospice of Sarah Bush Lincoln or the SBL Regional Cancer Center.
