He was predeceased by: his parents, William Applegate and Eva Westerholdt Applegate; his daughter Carolyn "Susie" Vaniter; and his siblings, William Applegate and Mary Lou Bingham.
He is survived by: his wife Shirley O'Hara; his grandchildren, Angela Schisler (Dan) of Monmouth, Stacy Swanger (Mike) of Plymouth and Robert McGovern (Breanna) of Virginia; his great grandchildren, Shaniah Anderson, Hunter Savage, Robert David, Emily Pratt and Michala Westfall (Tyler); and his siblings, Butch Applegate of Rushville and Ida Watkins of Alton.
