He was predeceased by: his father Ralph Eric Carlson, Sr.; and his sister Barbara Carlson. He is survived by: his mother Eleanor C. Carlson (Martinek); his wife Susan Carlson; his children, Eric Carlson (Carey), Jonathan Carlson and Kristin Carlson; his grandchildren, Zachary, Benjamin and Lucy Carlson; and his siblings, Lynn Carlson (Tom Reindl), Jean Carlson (Steve Favia), Karen Burlini (Tony) and Robert Carlson (Annette). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

“We were very sorry to hear of Ralph's passing during the intercessions at Mass this morning. He was such an upbeat person, and so active despite his disability. My husband remembers Ralph visiting him with Holy Communion when he was hospitalized in 2006. Ralph invited me to join the choir with him during that time as well - a great experience. We will miss him.”
