Van Kempen of Batavia, Illinois, born in Chicago, Illinois, who passed away on June 24, 2023, at the age of 61, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his mother Carolyn Van Kempen. He is survived by: his wife Kimberlie Van Kempen; his children, Michael Van Kempen (Mary Claire), Austin Van Kempen and Alyssa Van Kempen (Chris Nowacki); his grandchildren, Charlie and Sam Van Kempen; his father Jack Van Kempen; and his sister Laura Mueller (Dave).

“I am so very sorry to hear the news of the passing of John. “Van” and I met early in our freshman year of college at NIU. We had a great crew on Douglas Hall D-2 that included his roommate Jim “Stork” Sychta and my best friend and later roommate, Paul “Hadji” Thenstedt. Our floor was blessed with an incredible cast of characters, many of whom have been life-long friends. My deepest condolences to Kim, and the entire Van Kempen family. John was as good a man as I’ve ever met. R.I.P., my friend!”
