He was predeceased by: his brother Matt Bernert; and his parents, Robert F. and Madeline. He is survived by: his wife Sheila; his children, Christian Phillips (Diane), Stephanie Scott (Mike) and Sarah Gonzalez (Nick); his grandchildren, Lily Scott and Jason Phillips; his sister Marianne Nelson (late Al); his former wife Sally Phillips; and his pet Abby.
