He was predeceased by: his parents, Jadwiga Merecka and Antoni Merecki; and his brother Andrzej Merecki (Marzanna). He is survived by: his wife Wanda Merecka; his children, Marcin Szymula (Ewelina), Marta Merecka and Michal Szymula (Elizabeth); his grandchildren, Kacper, Landon, Jakub, David, Alexander, Emmalynn, Lilianna, Roman and Noah; and his siblings, Barbara Merecka and Wojciech Merecki (Agnieszka).
