Quin Howard Lanning Obituary

Quin Howard Lanning entered this world on August 21, 1944 and passed away as an angel on April 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family after battling cancer.

Quin had a strong moral compass and was a blessing to all who knew her. She lived her life as a one-of-a-kind soul with the core of a servant who displayed humility, love, compassion, kindness, and sincerity in all her interactions. As a teacher, Quin gracefully lifted up the hearts and minds of her students. She imparted self-esteem, the love of learning and made them feel valued, just as she did with everyone she met. While teaching, she found the time to do extensive volunteer work and helped found "New Kids on the Block" and the Victim Witness Program in Chicago. Later in her life she was a deacon at the Presbyterian Church in Barrington.

Through dedication and hard work, she was elevated to Vice President of the Junior League of Chicago. She gave you her undivided attention and had a gift for making each and every person feel important and unconditionally loved and accepted as if you were part of her family no matter the circumstances. She was known for her thoughtful and reflective mind, genuine curiosity, potential to see the best in all situations, and senses of wonder, hope, joy, and possibility in each day. Plus, she had a wonderful sense of humor even if the joke was about herself. Quin would give anyone a helping hand or go the extra mile for someone in need, even when she was fighting her own battles. She was a class act, full of strength and beauty, a woman who overflowed with love and joy, and who believed in living life to the fullest each day whilst preserving memories with friends and loved ones along life's journey. She will be dearly missed daily by many.

Quin is survived by her loving husband Mike, her daughters Ann (Craig) Jadown, Laura Lanning, brother Ed (Beth) Howard, and her two grandsons Dylan and Jack. Her daughter Amy preceded her in passing but will be welcoming her as a dance partner in Heaven.

Quin and her family are grateful for the Kellogg Cancer Center Staff and medical personnel at Highland Park Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ronald McDonald Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana (https://rmhccni.org) or the Anne and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Services will be held at 1 PM on May 31, 2024 at the Presbyterian Church of Barrington. Celebration of Life to follow.

“Mike and family, So very sad to hear of your loss. I only met Quin once at the home of John and Wyn Gilbert, old Oskaloosa classmates. She impressed me as a loving, compassionate, intelligent woman. I wish I would have know her better. My love and sympathy is with you all during this difficult time. Blessings, Sherry Arkless Klopf”
