He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Howard and Opal Sylvester (Parker); and his siblings, Ruth Collins, Betty Thompson, Louise Sylvester, Evelyn Gamble, Mildred Hurtt and Earl "Jack" Sylvester.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Yarnell Thomas of Arcola, IL; his sons, Virgil Sylvester (Janice) of Mattoon, IL, Mike Sylvester of Charleston, IL and Larry Sylvester (Pam) of Benton, IL; and his grandchildren, Toby Sylvester of Charleston, IL, Troy Sylvester (Christi) of Tuscola, IL, April Eaton (Brad) of Neoga, IL, John Sylvester (Kate) of Bloomington, IL and Mandy Sylvester of Harrisburg, IL. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
