Hildagard Elizabeth Redman Obituary
Hildagard Elizabeth (Smith) Redman, daughter of the late Joseph and Louisa Hofmann (Schmitt) Smith, was born April 16, 1892 in Union County, Illinois and passed away Monday, June 7, 1976 at the Union County Nursing Home in Anna, Illinois at the age of 85 years. She was the youngest of eleven children in her family. She was born Hildagard Elizabeth Schmitt, a German name, but because the German's were not very popular during World War I, and World War II, the family changed their last name to Smith. She was the wife of 10 years to the late Clyde Wilbur Redman whom she married February 26, 1913. She was survived by her daughter Norma Jean Matt and sister Edith Smith, grand children Lawrence (Carol) Matt, Duane (Cletus) Matt, Gerald (Marilyn) Matt and Norma Louise (Robert) Garza and numerous great grand children .
Mrs. Redman worked as a registered nurse for three months short of 40 years at the Kankakee State Hospital in Kankakee Illinois, where she met her husband and later retired from.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 11, 1976 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Norris and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Albert F. Nyland officiating. Interment was the Jonesboro Cemetery in Jonesboro, Illinois.
