He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Short and Freda Short (Ernst); his spouse Marybell Butkovich; his grandson Zachary Short; and his sister Glenda VanCleave.
He is survived by: his daughter Sherry Giertz (Bryan); his caregiver Wayne; his son Wayne Short, Jr. (Judy Porebski) of Godfrey; his grandchildren, Thomas Hans, Ashli Short (Zebedee), Dawn Laux (Ross), Adran Giertz (Ariel) and Cameron Giertz (Amina); his great grandchildren, Gage, Willow, Jordan, Denver, Brooklyn, Keelin, Keck, Ella and Violet; and his brother Ronald Short of Jerseyville.
Visitation was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Gent Funeral Home (2409 State St, Alton, IL 62002). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto. The family would like to thank Dr. Jon Wagnon and staff for his wonderful medical care during his struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
